Professional Side
I guess I am one of those people who truly loves their job. Unlike others, I can’t complain much about my work.
I am a professional web developer, web designer and SEO consultant with over 14 years of experience.
Most of my professional life I spent as a web developer and SEO consultant for several companies in Switzerland, Ireland and Canada.
For a short period (just over 2 years), I left the web development industry to join the video game industry. During that time, I worked for Blizzard (World of Warcraft) and then for Activision (Call of Duty series).
It was an amazing time and worth the experience to get an insight into the gaming industry. After 2 years however I had the urge to go back to web development.

Right now I am focusing on creating my own premium WordPress themes and WordPress plugins. On the side, I am selling start up websites on Flippa.com.

Technical Side
As a web developer I mainly work with PHP, MySQL, JavaScript, CSS and of course HTML (HTML5).
For almost all my personal websites, as well as websites of my customers I use a content management system (CMS). My choice is WordPress.
Although back in 2006 I started creating my own CMS, I could not keep up with the work that was put into wordpress, so eventually I dropped my own CMS in favor of wordpress, and I don’t regret it. WordPress is simply amazing.
I am familiar with several different kinds of CMS, such as Joomla, TYPO3, Drupal etc. Having tested almost all bigger CMS out there, I can definitely say, that nothing comes close to what WordPress has to offer. It’s big community and it’s huge amount of plugins as well as it’s user friendliness that makes it possible for total beginners to run a website, but still gives professionals and developers the option to customize website, sets it light years ahead of all it’s competition.
On the design side I use Photoshop for anything graphic related. Since the web has moved towards HTML5, I require Photoshop a lot less than I used to. Many things can now be done directly inside CSS. I definitely prefer it that way.

Personal Side
I am half Swiss, half Irish. Fluent in English, German and Swiss German. The first 18 years of my life, I spent in Switzerland. After that I decided to give Ireland a try for a short while. That short while lasted for 10 years. The majority of those 10 years I spent in Ireland, mostly Dublin.
Apart from Ireland, I also spent about 6 months living in Vancouver, Canada and another 6 months in Los Angeles, USA, plus 1 month in Auckland, New Zealand.
One of my next goals would be to discover Asia. I could see myself living Hong Kong or Tokyo for a couple of years.

My passion in life, is definitely all things IT related. Everything from hardware to software. Creating websites and web applications, building PCs, and if I find the time, I like playing video games.
Apart from my nerdy side, I love seeing different parts of the world. Not just travelling on a holiday basis, but actually living in different countries to get to know their culture, their country and most importantly, their mentality.
Moving to different countries is something I never thought I would be interested in, until I left Switzerland. Living in different countries for a while is not always easy, but it gives you an incredible life experience, a new way of understanding the world. It’s something I would recommend to anyone, even if you have never left your own country so far.

Well I guess that’s it for now. Thank you for spending your time reading this 🙂
